16-year-old girl 'gang-raped' by five minor boys in Gujarat

A girl, aged around 16, was allegedly gang-raped by five minor boys at Kanboodi village in Narmada district on Thursday, police said.

"Police have registered a case of rape against five minor boys, who gang-raped the girl at Kanboodi village under Dediyapada taluka," Manoharsinh Jadeja, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said.

All five accused, aged 13 to 16 years, have been detained. The incident occurred in the wee hours when the girl was returning home on foot from a marriage function, he said.

The boys, who found the teenager alone, dragged her to a secluded place and sexually assaulted her, Jadeja said, adding one of the accused was known to the girl.

She narrated the harrowing incident to her parents, who approached the police and lodged a complaint.

The girl gave details about one of the boys whom she knew. Police traced the boy and based on information provided by him, picked up the four others, the DSP said, adding that all of them have been kept under detention.

The girl has been admitted to a civil hospital for treatment and necessary medico-legal tests, added Jadeja.
