Sixteen former ministers of the UPA government are staying unauthorized in government bungalows for over a month now and they have been served eviction notices. This was informed by the Minister of Urban Development Shri M Venkaiah Naidu in a written reply today to Shri Anurag Thakur, Shri PC Gaddigoudar and Shri Hukumdev Narayan Yadav, Members of Lok Sabha. Shri Naidu also informed that these ministers owe a total damage charges of Rs. 20,92,463/-for one month of unauthorized stay till 26.7.2014. Damage charges ranged from Rs. 53,250/- per month in case of Type V accommodation of Shri Lalchand Kataria to Rs. 2,43,678/- for Type III accommodation of Shri Jaipal Reddy.
Other former ministers who are in unauthorized possession of such bungalows included: Shri Kapil Sibal, Shri Ajit Singh, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Shri Beni Prasad Verma, Shri Pallam Raju, Dr. Girija Vyas, Smt. Krishna Tirath, Shri SK Jena, Shri Sachin Pilot, Shri Jitendra Singh, Shri Pradip Jain Aditya, Shri Porika Balram Naik, Smt Killi Kriparani and Shri Manikrao Hodya Gavit.
Shri Naidu further informed that another 21 former ministers are staying in General Pool Bungalows and they have been given fifteen days time to move into their entitled accommodation to be provided by respective House Committees. These former ministers who are members of either Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha have been advised to obtain accommodation from their respective pools. These former ministers include Shri AK Anthony, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shri Mallikarjuna Kharge, Shri Veerappa Moily, Shri Vyalar Ravi, Shri Oscar Fernandes, Shri Jairam Ramesh, Shri Jyothiraditya Scindia, Shri KV Thomas, Shri K Ranhman Khan, Shri KH Muniyappa, Shri Shashi Tharoor, Dr K Chiranjivi, Shri Mullappally Ramachandran, Shri Rajiv Shukla, Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Shri AH Khan Choudhury, Shri Ninon Erring, Dr EM Sudershan Nachiappan, Shri KC Venugopal and Shri J Seelam.
A total of 683 flats ranging from Type I to Type VII are under unauthorized occupation of former employees and others for a period ranging from one month to 21 years. All these have been issued eviction notices. These included three Type VII houses, 15 Type VI, 34 Type V, 108 Type IV, 140 Type III, 176 Type II and 207 Type I houses. One Type I accommodation is under unauthorized occupation since March, 1993 against which total damage charges of Rs. 21,36,246/- is due. In respect of others, damage charges that are due ranged from Rs. 4,247/- to Rs.60,04,164/-.
