For the last four days, Indian Army is battling highly entrenched terrorists on the high altitude areas along the Line of Control (LoC) to foil Pakistan's designs to foment trouble in the holy month of Ramzan.

Indian Army thwarted seventh infiltration bid in the Gurez sector on Saturday, leaving one more terrorist dead, taking the toll of terrorists slain in the last 96 hours to 13. A soldier was also killed while fighting the terrorists in Naugam sector in the last four days.

Troops guarding the LoC have been taking on the terrorists at the treacherous mountains and inhospitable terrains at the altitudes ranging from 12,000 to 14,000 feet. From Uri to Naugam to Gurez to Machil, Army is fighting the infiltrators at multiple locations along the LoC.

"Relentless operations mounted by troops have successfully intercepted groups of armed intruders all along the LoC in Gurez, Machil, Naugam and Uri sectors leading to elimination of 13 armed intruders in the past 96 hours," said Colonel NN Joshi, defence spokesman at Northern Command Headquarters.

Five infiltrators were successfully gunned down when they were trying to sneak into the valley from Gawalthan in Uri sector of Line of Control on Friday.

Sources said successful foiling of the infiltration bids have prompted Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to rush to the LoC in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir to take stock of the situation.

"The sinister designs of Pakistan army to push in multiple groups of armed intruders continue to be defeated by proactive operations being carried out on the LoC," said Colonel Joshi.

What has alarmed the security forces was the recovery of huge quantity of explosive and inflammable material that was possibly meant for carrying out major terror attacks in the Kashmir valley.

"The explosives, inflammable material, arms and ammunition recovered from the armed intruders indicate Pakistan's designs to orchestrate high-profile terror incidents targeting innocent civilian population and security forces during the holy month of Ramzan," said Colonel Joshi.

Official figures reveal that in the current year so far, 24 infiltration attempts have been foiled and 40 armed intruders eliminated on the LoC.

Meanwhile, a civilian was injured when terrorists attacked the vehicles of ITBP at Vesu village on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. "The fire missed the target and hit the civilian car.

One civilian identified as Arif was injured in the back. About 20 empty cases of AK ammunition have been recovered from the spot," said a police spokesman.

Security forces also conducted random searches in parts of Lal Chowk area on Saturday afternoon. Nobody was arrested in the searches, sources said.

Analysis

Pak’s continuing support to separatists in J&K is crystal clear going by its Army chief's statement on Saturday.
General Bajwa said “will continue support for the right to self-determination for our Kashmiri brothers”.
Bajwa rushing to forward positions along the LoC in Muzaffarabad in the wake of casualties there attests to this.
