13 buildings evacuated, Air Force chopper deployed to douse Malviya Nagar fire: 10 points

Indian Air Force on Wednesday deployed an MLH class helicopter for firefighting operations in Delhi's Malviya Nagar where a massive fire continues to rage even 18 hours after it started Tuesday evening. An IAF chopper with Bambi Buckets has been deployed to douse the fire which broke out at a rubber godown in Khirki Extension.

The call of the fire was received around 5 PM and 35 fire tenders were rushed to the factory to bring the blaze under control, said a Delhi Fire Services officer. So far, 65 fire tenders have been deployed to bring the fire under control. The fire started from a truck parked near Sant Nirankari School in Malviya Nagar. The truck was loaded with rubber sheet from a godown. Officials described it as the "highest category" fire. 

Here are 10 updates on Malviya Nagar fire:

1. The PCR call regarding was received on Tuesday around 05:00 PM.

2. It was later found that a truck loaded with rubber compounds at a godown situated at Khirki Extn, Malviya Nagar had caught fire.

3. The fire soon spread to the rubber godown of the company Maxwell Pvt. Ltd. at Khirki Extension. The company provides rubber raw material for rethreading of vehicle tyre etc.

4. Rubber compounds stored in metallic /plastic boxes caught fire which are inflammable. Moderate winds are also flaring up the fire, officials said. 

5. So far, 65 fire tenders have reached the spot and 5 tenders also used DCP foam to control the fire.

6. 13 buildings, one school and a gym have been evacuated for safety reasons.

7. Medical teams at Max Hospital Saket, Rainbow Child Speciality Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS have been alerted to attend to any injured. Cops have also been placed at the hospitals in case of an emergency.

8. Teams of fire department claim that fire will extinguish only once the material is completely burned

9. Police teams have been deployed to assist in evacuation, crowd control and coordination with other agencies. Teams of DDMA, DFS and civil defence are also present. 

10. Services of helicopter bucket from Indian Air Force are being taken to extinguish the fire. At least 3 sorties have been made by the chopper.
