12 arrested for gambling on IIM-Ahmedabad campus

Satellite police arrested 12 persons for gambling in staff quarters during a raid at the residential campus of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA).

Satellite police arrested 12 persons for gambling in staff quarters during a raid at the residential campus of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA). Investigation revealed that all of them either work as contract employees or peons at the old IIMA campus.

On Sunday at around 11pm, P D Parmar, police sub-inspector of Satellite, received a tip-off regarding gambling activity at staff quarters for sweepers and peons at the old campus of IIMA. Parmar and his men raided the house of one Vanaji Parmar in the staff quarters and busted the activity.

The arrested include Kaushik Sonria, 30, Jayesh Chaudhari, 34, Naresh Chaudhari, 32, Tulsi Solanki, 25, Nitin Vaghela, 22, Rakesh Chaudhari, 33, Chirag Bundela, 22, Jayesh Solanki, 25, Janak Soneria, 22, Narendra Patel, 29, Jayendra Parmar, 23, and Raju Vaghela, 50.  Vanaji, who works as a peon at IIMA, managed to flee from his house. Cops recovered Rs19,300 cash and 14 mobile phones from these gamblers.

Investigation by Satellite police revealed that Raju Vaghela too has been working as a permanent peon with IIMA for last 30 years. However, he initially claimed that he was just another contract employee.

The remaining work as sweepers and cleaning staff at IIMA on contract basis. All of them live in the IIMA staff quarters, as their family members or parents work as permanent employees there.
