Militants lobbed an explosive device at the camp of 82-battalion CRPF housed in a local hotel, which hit the concrete wall inside the gate on Thursday evening.
Two days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally, militants sent a chilling reminder to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government when they hurled a powerful grenade at a CRPF camp injuring 11 soldiers, four of them seriously, at Ikhwan Chowk near Nowpora in Srinagar on Thursday.

Eleven CRPF men, who were on duty at that time, sustained injuries in the attack. They were shifted to the hospital where doctors treating them declared them out of danger, though four soldiers had sustained serious wounds.
Bhavesh Chaudhary, officiating spokesman of CRPF, however told dna that it seems the militants have lobbed a locally made explosive device since no splinters were recovered from the site of explosion.
“We were looking for the splinters but could not find it so far. Technically if a grenade is lobbed there should be splinters but we have not found anything so far. It seems some locally made explosive device might have been hurled at the camp,” Chaudhary said.
All the injured were immediately rushed to the hospital where most of them were discharged after first aid. However, four soldiers have been admitted since they have suffered serious injuries.
The incident occurred at a time when security forces are at maximum alert to ensure peaceful rally of the Prime Minister on Saturday. Kashmir Valley has been turned into a fortress with thousands of police and paramilitary soldiers deployed to ensure security during the rally, which will be Modi’s first in summer capital city since the formation of PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir on March 1.
From detaining more than 250 people including separatists and their supporters to cracking down on the online Jihadis, security forces are leaving nothing to chance to ensure peaceful rally of the Prime Minister on Saturday.
Most of the separatist leaders have either been detained in police stations or put under house arrest to stop their proposed parallel `Million March’ to counter Modi’s public rally at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Several CCTV cameras have been installed at vintage points to keep an eye on the public movement. Sniffer dogs and mobile surveillance bunkers have also been pressed into service to ensure peaceful rally.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have also launched a crackdown on the online jihadis and blocked more than 30 pages on different social networking sites to avoid whipping up passions and rumour mongering. A close eye is being kept on the social media in a bid to keep anti national elements at bay.
