The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will soon be setting up a 100-acre Space Park in Bengaluru. This plan is part of the ‘Make in India’ proposal.

A report in The New Indian Express states that the Space Park will be for manufacturing companies which make space system related parts and components. Since India is set to launch more satellites in the coming years, this Space Park is seen as important to cater to these demands.

ISRO satellite centre director M Annadurai stated at the Indian Science Congress in Mysuru that the Space Park is coming up at Whitefield, Bengaluru and is for the private industry. It will be inaugurated in January itself.

In 2016, India will launch 12 satellites for remote sensing and navigation. This Space Park will enable private players in the country to be part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative which Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd is already a part of.

Annadurai also said, “India will be the first country to have a high altitude polar landing of Chandrayaan 2 and it will have three components — orbiter, Lander and rover — to study the lunar surface. The mission is scheduled to be launched 2017-18.”
