A week after India suspended all cross-Line of Control trade with Pakistan citing smuggling of goods, terror funds, drugs, arms and fake currency notes, the Indian security agencies have identified 10 Pakistan-based militants who are reportedly involved in the illegal activities with the active aid of ISI.

Meanwhile, the Central government stated that they will revisit the issue of resuming the trade, but only after putting stricter measures and systems in place.

The Indian agencies found that 10 militants — originally from Jammu and Kashmir — crossed over to Pakistan sometime in the ’90s and joined terror organisations, thereafter establishing trading firms there. They have since been  involved in illegal trade.  They operate businesses ranging from almonds, dry dates, dry fruits to mangoes as part of the modus operandi to send money to fuel unrest in Jammu and Kashmir on behalf of the Pakistani intelligence.

They have been identified as Basharat Ahmed Bhat, Shabbir Illahi, Showkat Ahmad Bhat, Noor Mohammad Ganai, Khurshid, Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan, Amir, Sayeed Ajay Ahmed Shah, Mehrajuddin Bhat and Nazir Ahmed Bhat.

“The 10 Pakistan-based militants were involved in funnelling illegal weapons, narcotics and fake currency into the Valley misusing the recently suspended cross LoC trade routes,” a senior security official said.

During investigation, for example, it was found that Basharat Ahmed Bhat is originally a resident of Budgam, and is now living in Rawalpindi and running the AL Nasir Trading Company.
