The festival of Eid, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan also marks the day on which Muslims break their 29 or 30-days-long fast after the sighting of crescent moon. This fast is supposed to cleanse them spiritually. The festival is also known as Hari Raya in some countries of the world.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on July 7 in India it was announced on Tuesday.
It is believed that the festival of Eid originated in Medina, when prophet Muhammad migrated there from Mecca. It is a special day for children as well as they get "Eidi" (gifts in cash or kind) from the elders of their families. The Muslims celebrate this festival with a lot of zeal and even forget and forgive their differences or enmity, if they had any during the year. Everyone greets one another saying "Eid Mubarak"
