A 19-year-old youth was stabbed to death and his two brothers and a friend were wounded on a running train in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday evening when a group of men attacked them after allegedly calling them ‘anti-nationals’ and ‘meat-eaters’.

The youth boarded the train from Delhi to their village in Haryana’s Ballabgarh.

“They asked my son to get up and vacate the seat just because he ate meat. They removed his skull cap and threw it,” said Zalaludeen, who lost his son Junaid.

Kamaldeep, Superintendent of Police, Government Railway Police, said, “One of the accused has been arrested. A hunt is still on.”

Brothers Junaid and Hasib, along with their friend Moin, had left for Delhi to shop for Eid. Hasib said a group of 15-20 men boarded the train at Okhla Station and asked them to vacate the seats.  They called relatives for help after the mob started thrashing them.

The third brother, Shakir, boarded the train at Ballabgarh after getting the call. Once inside the train, he was also attacked. The four tried to get off the train but they could not due to crowd.

“One of the attackers started stabbing us. Later we were thrown out of the train,” added Hasib.

They were all rushed to a hospital in Haryana’s Palwal. Junaid was declared dead on arrival.
