Taking a leaf out of the popularity of the film 'Padman', Alwar set a milestone in the direction of personnel hygiene wherein over 1 lakh girls students were educated on menstrual hygiene and over 2.5 lakh students were oriented about 'hand wash' in a single day. This special program was conceived and executed under the monitoring of district collector Rajan Vishal who had implemented a similar event in Nagaur. He has been lauded by CM Vasundhara Raje for the efforts.

With an objective to create awareness and break taboos alongside increasing access to the requisite sanitary infrastructure, Alwar collector launched the 'Chuppi Todo, Sayani Bano' campaign. The move, the administration claims, is in compliance with the National Guidelines on Menstrual Hygiene Management issued by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

"The campaign intended to engage adolescent girls from 2,700 government schools and 3,427 AWCs (Anganwadi centers) on February 20. "Around 1,01,189 adolescent girls from schools and communities were oriented on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and given IEC kits containing practical management steps. This mobilisation was collectively led by 2,700 school teachers and 9,553 frontline workers in 1,977 villages across the district," said collector Vishal.

Talking to DNA, Vishal added that under the campaign, a 'Bal Swachhata Doot' (Hygiene Ambassador) from participating adolescent girls will be identified. "This selection will be based on the criteria of overall enthusiasm and 100 per cent attendance, as this signifies the girl must have taken good care of her hygiene needs. This workshop will be conducted again on every second Tuesday of each month to carry forward and reinforce the discussion on a monthly basis," said Vishal.
