On January 28 alleged Shiv Sena workers attacked the Mumbai office of Maharashtra Times because of a a report in the Marathi daily speculating that a sitting Shiv Sena MP was on his way to NCP. Around 20-25 activists entered the lobby of the main building and damaged furniture, flower pots, etc and burnt copies of the papers while shouting slogans.

Yingluck Shinawatra, the first woman Prime Minister of Thailand, was the chief guest at the 63rd Republic Day parade held in New Delhi. Shinawatra attended the ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan and later in the day lay a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi's samadhi. A series of three coordinated bomb blasts occurred at different locations in Mumbai on July 13, 2011 between 6:54 and 7:06pm. The blasts occurred at the Opera House, Zaveri Bazaar, and Dadar West localities, leaving 26 killed, and 130 injured. According to the speculations based on the pattern of the blasts, involvement of Indian Mujahideen was suspected. Recently arrests have been made in connection with the blasts.

Adnan Patrawala a teenager from Mumbai on August 18, 2007 was kidnapped by five friends for a ransom of Rs2 core. He was murdered the next day when the police got a whiff of the kidnapping and broke the news on national TV and print media. On January 30, 2012, a Mumbai court acquitted four of the five accused due to lack of evidence. Fifth accused is still in police custody.

In a case of honour killing, 3 daughters and one of the wives of Mohammad Shafia of the Shafia family were found dead in the June of 2009 in Ontario, Canada. The prosecutors charged the parents of the daughters and their brother with first degree murder. All three accused denied all charges. According to the prosecuter the victims had dishonoured their family's name defying disciplinarian rules on dress, dating and socialising. They were pronounced guilty by a jury in January 2012.

On 17 November 2011, an American businessman Mansoor Ijaz publicly accused Husain Haqqani, then Pakistan Ambassador to the United States, of involvement in a secret memo to Admiral Michael Mullen asking for US intervention in changing Pakistan's military and intelligence agencies. Haqqani denied the accusation and resigned from his post.
