India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Sri Lanka's new leaders to grant greater autonomy to minority Tamils who suffered the most during decades of ethnic war.

Narendra Modi landed in Jaffna on March 14, becoming the first Indian prime minister to visit Sri Lanka's war-ravaged northern Tamil heartland and handed over 27,000 new homes to Tamils who became homeless during the civil war.​
