Prime Minister Narendra Modi had summit talks with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott as he arrived in the Australian capital Canberra. The two countries were expected to sign pacts on social security, extradition, and combating drug trade aiming at forging a strategic partnership with Australia to promote India's economic goals and security interests, including maritime security.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a reception and dinner hosted by his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott at the famous 161-year-old Melbourne Cricket Ground.
