As the floods in Kerala continue, things have just gone from bad to worse for its residents. Although the death toll suggests that at least 324 people have died due to the rains, the damage that the weather has brought onto the state has been irreversible.
PM Modi is currently in Kerala holding high-level meetings and taking stock of the crisis in the state.
Earlier this week, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj offered to compensate those who had lost their passports during the floods, but now with the problem getting out of hand, people from various parts of the country have started donating to help the people of the state.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged people to contribute generously to the CM’s relief fund and shared the link on their Twitter timeline.

Earlier, Concerned over the rising water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday sought Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E.K. Palaniswami's intervention to draw water from the brimming dam.
Mullaperiyar Dam is one of the dams in Kerala, whose shutters have been opened, to release excess water, following the heavy downpour in the state. Kerala had said the dam was dangerous, but the Tamil Nadu always opposed this. This has always been a contentious issue between both states.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the Kerala deluge has increased to 67. Around 85,398 people have taken shelter in the relief camps across the state.
