Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Washington on Sunday on the second leg of his three-nation tour, attended a round-table of CEOs of top global companies as well as addressed the Indian diaspora in Virginia.

Modi, during his meeting with the CEOs of top 20 American firms, also said that India attracted the largest amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) as a result of the NDA government's policies in the last three years. In the round table interaction with the group that included Tim Cook of Apple, Sunder Pichai from Google, John Chambers from Cisco and Jeff Bezos of Amazon, he spoke about the reforms undertaken by his government, saying they numbered over 7,000, and were aimed at "ease of (doing) business and minimum government, maximum governance."

"Interacted with top CEOs. We held extensive discussions on opportunities in India," Modi tweeted after the meeting that lasted for about 90 minutes.

He said the world is now focused on India's economy, especially in areas like manufacturing, trade, commerce, and people-to-people contact, due to a young population and a rising middle-class.

Later in the day, more than 600 diaspora Indians, dressed in their traditional finery, converged in Virginia for a reception in honour of PM Modi, and voiced optimism about the future of India-US relations under the leadership of Modi and US President Donald Trump.

Modi, in his nearly 50-minute address in Hindi to the diaspora, outlined the achievements of his government in the past three years, including introduction of social benefits like the direct benefit transfer scheme, subsidy removal, opening of bank accounts, technological advancement in areas ranging from space to agriculture and opening a number of sectors to foreign investment.

He said leaders across the world still remember the rockstar reception the Indian-American community accorded him in 2014 at New York's Madison Square Garden. He said there were proposals to hold bigger events this time also but he specifically wanted to meet the leaders who worked hard to organise the previous events during his visits to the US.
