While Indians at home are still averse to voting, is the government being too ambitious in wooing the NRIs to exercise their right to franchise in India?

Prime minister Manmohan Singh in his address at the annual gathering of the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas held for the Indian Diaspora, stated that the long-held promise of the government allowing NRIs to vote in the general elections may be fulfilled soon.

He also mentioned that the government is planning to change the definition of who is the ‘citizen’.

While Indians at home are still averse to voting, is the government being too ambitious in wooing the NRIs to exercise their right to franchise in India?
