Home minister P Chidambaram has recently discussed the possibility of using ‘air support’ for anti-Maoist operations with the state chief ministers, most of who are believed to be in agreement with the idea.
Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, however, openly disapproved of the use of the air force in dealing with Naxalism, a day after home minister P Chidambaram said he was trying to ‘convince’ the cabinet to provide air support to anti-Naxal operations.
The Congress general secretary, who had earlier in a newspaper article criticised the approach of Chidambaram and the home ministry in tackling Naxalism, advocated talks and a multi-pronged strategy to deal with the problem.
Do you favour the use of the army or the air force in dealing with Naxalism? Or do you believe a multi-pronged strategy is called for?
