Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Wednesday confirmed the incursion by Chinese troops in Chamoli district of the hill state.

Speaking to media, Rawat said, "The information is true and the situation is worrisome. Our border area has been peaceful so far and since the beginning we have demanded to increase vigilance."

The movement of Chinese forces were seen when our state revenue officers had gone to measure the land area, he said.

"I believe, the government will take the cognizance," he said adding that it was a good thing that the troops did not touch an important canal in the area.

"ITBP sent a report about this incident to MHA on July 19th, the date of incursion," ANI reported quoting sources.

In a written reply to Kumari Sushmita Dev and others in the Lok Sabha in April this year, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had said that there have been no instances of incursions by Chinese troops into Indian territory.
