Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on a four-nation tour of African countries, on Thursday visited Mozambique and said 'India will be a trusted friend'.
Modi and Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi held restricted talks at the Presidential Office in Maputo in a bid to bolster bilateral ties between both countries after receiving ceremonial welcome.
Addressing media, Modi said,"In Mozambique's march towards economic prosperity, India will walk every step of the way. We will be a trusted friend."
Stating that both the countries have agreed to put cooperation in agriculture on the fast track, he added, "President Nyusi and I recognise that terrorism is the gravest security threat facing the world today. We have agreed to strengthen our defence and security relationship."
The Prime Minister also added that India was one of the strongest supporters of Mozambican independence and the shared struggles and suffering under colonial oppression brought the two countries together.
Modi's African nation tour is aimed at enhancing ties with that continent, particularly in the economic sphere and people-to-people contacts.
Today evening, Modi will travel to Pretoria in South Africa, a country he described as an "important strategic partner, with whom our ties are historical and deep-rooted."
