Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held wide-ranging talks with his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau who is on a week-long visit to India. Trudeau was officially welcomed by Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier today.
Trudeau arrived in India on February 17 and has visited Agra, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Amritsar, and Delhi during his stay. His visit has also been marred by controversy with the presence of convicted Khalistani terrorist Jaspal Atwal at his Mumbai reception.
The Canadian Prime Minister has been under pressure throughout his tour to answer Indian concerns about Sikh separatism in Canada.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh handed Trudeau a list of 9 Canada-based Khalistani operatives allegedly involved in promoting radicalism during the talks between the two leaders on Wednesday.
The ties between India and Canada have been on an upswing. Approximately 1.4 million Canadians are of Indian heritage and India is Canada's second largest source of immigrants.
Canada is also a leading education destination for Indian students, and India is the second largest source of international students, an estimated 124,000 in 2017, as per official figures.
