Indian Navy, Anti Terrorists Sqad (ATS) and other security agencies have been put on a high alert after suspicious movements of people with arms were reported in Uran, near Mumbai.
According to initial reports, a few school children sighted 5-6 persons in pathan suits who appeared to be carrying weapons and backpacks near Uran Naval Base.
Indian Navy's Western Naval Command, expeditiously reacted to the situation by first initiating an alert and informing all coastal security stakeholders. Searches and other actions as per procedure have been initiated. The situation is being closely monitored in liaison with the Police. No person has been located or apprehended till now.
Police officials have refused to comment. However, there is a huge presence military, Navy officials, air force and police personnel across the city.
According to residents, movement of forces started around 10 am. All shops, school and courts were closed following the report of suspected militants in the city.
A corporator from Uran civic body said that students saw the suspected militants and then informed their school principal, following which police and Navy were informed.
