Rajnath Singh has made it clear he will not compromise on the Ram temple. Neither will his government, if elected, sit stilland watch the goings on in Pakistan. If need arises, the BJP-led government will send the army to Pakistan for a joint operation against the Taliban. Singh spoke to DNA while campaigning in Rajasthan.

What are the NDA’s prospects of forming a government at the Centre?
Rajnath: I have visited four states so far and have covered many constituencies. I feel that the NDA is in a comfortable position to form a government. BJP will be the single largest party. I can’t tell you the numbers but NDA is way ahead of the UPA.

How important is Ayodhya? People say BJP is not talking about it fearing loss of minority votes.
It is the foremost commitment of the BJP to build a temple in Ayodhya. Those who do not believe in the existence of Lord Rama are trying to mislead the people.

If BJP assumes power, how will you deal with Pakistan at a time when it is facing threats from the Taliban?
Our agenda is clear. Our government will put diplomatic pressure on Pakistan. We will ask them to curb terrorism either with the help of their own army, or with our help. We are prepared to send our army for a joint operation against Taliban terrorists. Rather than just sitting in India and witnessing what is happening in Pakistan, the UPA government should have intervened and asked Pakistan to make a strategy to tackle terrorism.

BJP accuses Congress of not executing Afzal Guru’s death sentence and Congress accuses the NDA of releasing Azhar Masood. What is your take on that?
See, a terrorist who was sentenced to death by the session court, high court and Supreme Court has not yet been awarded the sentence during the UPA government. As far as the hijacking is concerned, the Congress has been claiming that the release of terrorists was the sole decision of the NDA. The decision was taken at an all-party meeting and Congress was party to it.

Is the heat in Rajasthan getting to you?
I feel like a roasted chicken that has lost weight in the heat. But, one cannot stop. If you need to give your country right governance, you need to talk to voters.
