Nobody can challenge Modi in political context today: Giriraj Singh
Giriraj Sinha

You started this journey from a small village in Bihar. Did you think one day you would become a Union Minister?

Forget about dreaming of being a Union Minister, I never even had the desire to become a member of council or an MLA. I did'nt even think that I would be a minister of Bihar even. It was a passion that was ignited by Jayaprakash's movement. And then the situations and circumstances followed leading to this.

Who was the one to motivate you to join politics?

Nobody gave me the idea as such. In our country around 90 per cent of the people belong to middle-class families. And these are the people who jump into the the problems of our country. Jayaprakash's movement was also something of this sort; middle-class youth jumped into it and this is how it all started.

So are all your achievements in politics because of your efforts, or was there a Godfather who helped you through all this?

Well, there was no Godfather. I belong from a carpenter family in Lakhisarai district, there was a socialist leader Kapil Dev Babu. So we did not have much issue getting the tickets. And then with time I reached where I am now.

When did you got to interact with Narendra Modi?

When we were in the Yuva Morcha, a unity trip was initiated where we got to meet the then president Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, and Narendra Modiji was with him. That is when I got to meet him.

Who proposed for your Lok Sabha ticket, who helped you get it?

I wanted to contest from Begusarai, but I did not get a ticket from there. I even protested. Then the national president used his sources. The country was swinging with the Modi wave which helped a lot. We had put in our best efforts as well and all of it helped in the victory with good number of votes.

Narendra Modi is the PM since last 3 years and all eyes are on him. How do you rate Modiji as PM?

Narendra Modi is in Ajay's role today. There is no face in India, which can challenge him in political context. You must have seen the discussions on international platforms. Whosoever meets Modi is instantly transformed. When Modiji launched a campaign against terrorism, all the superpowers supported him. You can see that the supporters of Pakistan and terrorism are also isolated.

When Modi goes abroad, millions of people gather and you can see and feel that fan following of Modi all around... Do you think he is going to be a global leader?

See no one goes around to become a leader. If this was possible many industrialists would have become a leader by going around and spending money. What matters is who is considered as a leader by the world and what is the reason behind him being considered as a leader. Narendra Modi is guiding the problems of the world today... Modiji has a charismatic persona of a leader. People like him for his ways of dealing with the problems.

When Manmohan Singh went for such tours, no one knew where he was traveling. Today, no matter where Modiji goes, he works to uplift the glory and dignity of India.

Whenever Narendra Modi is talked about, Amit Shah's name is usually mentioned. It is said that Amit Shah's management is amazing, how do you see him as the party president?

When Narendra Modi was the Gujarat chief minister, Amit Shahji was the home minister ... Amit Shahji was the leader of our youth front, we even worked together. He has ambitious organisational competence. Both Amit Shah and Narendra Modi can provide decisive leadership. Many journalists said that leaders od democratic nations who implemented GST suffered electoral losses. But Narendra Modi has taken the decision. His objective and vision are clear.

How are you so close to both of them?

The question is whether I'm close to both or not. The fact is I am a fan of their qualities. During Nitish Kumar's tenure as the Bihar Chief Minister, I was the minister of his cabinet. Everyone used to ask me who would become the Prime Minister. I replied Narendra Modi. This made a lot of people angry, but I used to speak with the spirit of common people.

In the next few days, the party president is going to travel 5 lakh kms. Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu. Do you think the BJP's victory flag will be hoisted in these places as well?

In the manner in which the politics of appeasement is going on in the country, the ability to make decisions in national interest is observed in only Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. When Congress spoke about free India, people talked about different types of things. See, where the party, that had inherited everything, stand today, and to what extent it went down. It is important to recognise the country's pulse and stand for the country's interest.

In Bihar, when you were a cooperative minister in Nitish Kumar's government, how was the experience?

Firstly Nitishji was definitely worried about the development of Bihar. He never stopped us from working. One of my campaigns was 'Niche Machli Upar Bijli'.When I met Nitishji, I said the same thing that 25 to 35 Mega power will be given to every district and the money which goes out for pisiculture will also stay here.

How do you see Nitish Kumar as a Chief Minister?

Nitish Kumar has a Political Cosmetic Face. Now when I assess, I think whether he is the same Nitish Kumar who used to talk about good governance in Bihar. GDP which used to be 13 per cent has gone down to 7 per cent. Now he sides with Laluji, thus he will never be a nutritionist for development. I have not been able to understand why he went.

Do you think Nitish Kumar will be the competitor for Modi in 2019?

I will say that no political party has power, people have power and Narendra Modi does not have any competitor, he himself is his competitor. Rahul Gandhi or Opposition is no challenge for them.

Have you said a few days ago that Nitish Kumar has come to Dhritarashtra's post?

I said that because every day there is murder in Bihar. Loot and rape are happening every alternate day. Bihar is going towards destruction, so what should I say? If they are blindfolded by the power then they are behaving just like Dhritarashtra of Mahabharat.

Is Bihar becoming ill-famed in terms of education?

Rajendra Babu used to represent education. Bihar's past has always been of great honour. Nalanda, Valmiki, all were there. But now, Nitishji is representing education in Bihar. It has been 12 years since he came to power. Where have they led Bihar? These are the questions for them.

Once you said that Lalu Prasad Yadav is the brand ambassador of Jungle Raj.

They came to power with the support of the poor. But please tell us how many of those have benefited. But chaos has definitely spread.

You said that Lalu Prasad Yadav is the brand ambassador of Law and Order and Jangaraj.

I did not say anything wrong. If a political person is such a powerful person that he remains in power for 15 long years. I can say with the challenge that in the name of the poor, they came to power .They just spread hatred. How many people were saved? The chaos spread .And we were saying that Jungle Raj 2 came to Bihar before 2015.

Now the cases of ED and income tax are taking their toll on Lalu Prasad and his family. Some are saying your government is doing so for political vendetta.

It all began when Sushil Kumar Modi accused BJP of soil scam. After that, Nitishji had said the BJP does not investigate. Nitishji said that and the investigation began the next day. Nitish ji must answer that where he will stand. Shall he stand with corruption or with good governance?

Nitish Kumar is supporting your party's candidate for the Presidential election. So, is Nitish Kumar gradually moving towards BJP?

I do not know what he will do. He was there with me in the NDA government, then he was with Pranab Mukherjee. Right now he is supporting NDA candidate. I saw Lalu Prasad Yadav accusing him. Nitish Kumar will have to tell the people of the country who he is standing with.

For the Presidential election, UPA has chosen Meira Kumar. Both the candidates are Dalit and are from Bihar. Where do you find the difference between them?

These elections are based on votes. Many of the non-NDA parties are standing with our candidate Ramnath Kovind. Be it AIDMK, Biju Janta Dal or Nitish Kumar. Congress is doing this just out of stubbornness. BJP had said if there was a consensus candidate the situation would be more respectable.

You are called the poster boy of the BJP's Saffron Brigade, Hindu Brigade. Over time, there are big controversial statements.

I see two things in India. If the population control law is not made then social equality will break. The population of Hindus has fallen. There has been a breakdown of social equality. I can give you an example. Zee has seen the situation of how the population of Hindus has fallen since independence. The number of Hindus in 1947 was 90 per cent. And now it has decreased to 72 per cent. The state of appeasement has brought this situation to the country. It was also necessary to rethink the definition of minority. Who is the minority? What will be the parameter. I can do anything for this campaign. First, I am a Hindu and then I am a part of the BJP. Secularism has been settled in a turbulent state.

GST is going to be implemented in the country. Is your department is prepared for this?

Our department is preparing themselves to adapt to the new system. We are also giving training to the people. We are engaged in training in nearly 400 districts. Some are still waiting for the GST. We will surely be benefited in future.

Some people say that this will increase Inspector Raj. More forms will have to be filled.

We are deciding on suggestions. Every country is adopting us, we are also adopting certain things.

You are considered to be a successful minister. What is your road map for the next two years?

Our department has done numerous activities all over the world. Things have become really comfortable in villages. Earlier, only a loan of Rs 1 crore was granted for coal sector, now it has been increased to 20 million. Initiatives for SC/STs have also been formulated. The banks are guided to cooperate with them in emergency situation. PM has formulated Zero Effect Zero Defect.

We urge you to send your team if you can give some time, then I will be grateful. I want you to see the happiness in the eyes of the poor.

In the recent past, you recovered from a disease. The impact is still visible on your face.

I used to be very busy. I assumed it to be normal cough and cold. That turned out to be chest infections. Now I am doing yoga. I want yoga to be made compulsory in schools. It's good for health.
