A dialogue with JC | No Pappu this time: BJP may win Gujarat but Rahul to emerge as strong leader
Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi

Q: What is the real message of 68% voting on 89 seats in the first phase of Gujarat elections?

A: The only real message is that there is elections in Gujarat...Narendra Modi is fighting toughest election... it’s Modi’s contest with revived Congress and rebel youngsters...public sends out decisive message... public has voted decisively in the first phase... Arun Jaitley said they have swept the election while on the other hand Ahmed Patel said in a serious tone that it’s a clean sweep for us...the most surprising fact is that one of the agencies which have forecast victory for BJP in Himachal elections has predicted Congress’ victory in Gujarat and Ahmed Patel is reiterating its claim that Congress will come power with 110 seats...the result will come out only on 18.

Q: How successful was Amit Shah’s strategy of booth management and bringing voters to booth?

A: BJP’s electoral strategy was focussed on two points - first face of Modi and second booth management of Amit Shah. Amit Shah managed 50,000 booths  and he claims that his booth management was successful - the result will be seen on 18th. If Congress loses, one of the reasons would be that Congress could not manage the booth at micro level.

Q: In the tense atmosphere of tight contest between Congress and BJP, there were no incidences of violence during poll...how do you see it?

A: Credit goes to Election Commission and local government in Ahmedabad...the election commission of Gujarat has made such an elaborate arrangements that no major untoward incident took place...Gujarat government and election commission should be appreciated for this.

Q: Is Modi-Shah making government again in Gujarat or Congress is making a comeback after 22 years?

A: Modi is a game-changer. It was in headlines that Modi has changed the mood of the election...as per survey it is believed that BJP is forming government in Gujarat what if with less majority. This is public perception.

Q: Will Opinion polls which forecast a tight contest between Congress and BJP be proved right? Eventually why Amit Shah is so confident?

A: As far as opinion poll and Satta Bazaar are concerned concerned there is consensus on the fact that BJP will form the government. It means that at any cost BJP will emerge as the largest party...BJP will form the government, this is deemed publicly.

Q: Will Modi’s Gujarati pride and glory out shadow issues of demonetisation and GST in Surat?

A: In Surat, there are 85,000 businessmen and 5 lakh people are affected directly while 20 lakh are affected indirectly...there is dissent in people of Surat...now it’s to be seen if this dissent changes the poll prospects of BJP...on fact has emerged that Congress has gained in Saurashtra and it may be deducted that there is little dissent against BJP in Surat...it may affect the fortune of BJP.

Q: Will the dream of Hardik-Kalpesh-Jignesh of beating BJP realise in this election?

A: This is a million dollar question. Modi is standing tall in front of all these three with a 56-inch chest. It doesn’t seem that the trio will be able to outsmart Modi but if a miracle happens we will have to say that Modi is out shown ...but it doesn’t look like.

Q: Has Manishankar become ‘Mani’ for BJP and ‘Shankar’ for Congress? Eventually how much damage has been inflicted to Congress due to his statement?

A: Congress has definitely suffered from Manishankar’s statement... how much damage has been done, we can’t estimate but Modi is a very smart operator...within 7 minutes Modi made it a national issue...and he opened Pandora Box by quoting what Congress has said about him in last 12 years. Modi told public that he has been disrespected by Congress and it’s question of Gujarat pride. Definitely, it has caused damage to Congress.

Q: Is CM Vijay Rupani really losing the election?

A: There has been reports that he may lose the election. His wife is taken over the reins... I don’t think he will lose the election...his tenure was good and he is a popular leader...and the voting is 68% which is less than 2012 voting of 70%. The question is who comprises 2% who didn’t turn up to vote...I don’t think, it’s a vote against Vijay Rupani.

Q: Will the slogan of Narendra Modi - Main Chhu Gujarat, Main Chhu Vikas - be a hit this time?

A: The slogan of Modi has been super hit. He said I have sold tea not the nation...there is no match to Modi when it comes to coining slogans. But this time he is facing a stiff challenge from Hardik in terms of slogans also. He coined Gabbar Singh Tax and one day he wrote on cap - I am Foolish Gujarati... and now new slogan has been coined - Congress Ave Chhe...then this is politics of slogans and Modi is master of it ...Hardik Patel has learnt this art from him. This time it can be said that Congress has outshone Modi in coining slogans.

Q: Why there was low turnout in Modi’s election rallies? Was bad weather responsible for that or people has come out of illusion?

A: The graph of Narendra Modi has gone down...the popularity of Modi has also dipped. But it’s not to that extent that he loses elections. It may be said that popularity has gone down, there has been thinning of crowd...an important fact has emerged that there was vacant chairs at his rally at Bharuch. On the other hand when Hardik Patel went to Surat 1-1.3 lakh people turned out to to listen to his speech. Then people compared and people felt that Modi’s popularity has gone down.

Q: in the register of Somnath Temple, there had been controversy related to Rahul Gandhi’s entry as non-Hindu, how do you see that? Is it an immoral politics?

A: Definitely, it’s an immoral politics...that was a disrespect to people of Gujarat... whether he is Hindu or non-Hindu. Congress made bigger mistake by circulating picture of Rahul Gandhi wearing ‘Jenau’. It means we are ‘Jeanudhari’ and vote for us.

Q: Will Ram mandir be an agenda in this elections?

A: In this election, neither Ram mandir is an issue nor Yogi or polarisation. This time it’s local issues... Congress and Hardik Patel have tried to contest this election on local issues...but that has been a ploy of BJP to contest this election keeping Modi in mind. What would be the result, will come out only after the second phase of elections.

Q: In this elections what would be the impact of Triple Talaq on muslim women?

A: The impact of this will be there..I have seen that in UP elections...Muslim women voted for BJP in UP and here also women are publicising for BJP. Definitely BJP will gain from this.

Q: Will BJP’s victory in UP’s local body election have impact on Gujarat elections?

A: Definitely, UP has an impact on Gujarat elections. This is another issue that Modi and Shah are master of marketing...you can’t match them...BJP won municipal elections in UP...the winning percentage in not that what has been shown...definitely BJP will gain in Gujarat on UP win.

Q: Is ‘Achhe Din’ coming for Rahul Gandhi and is he really becoming a big political leader?

A: Whether Acche Din are there for Rahul Gandhi or not, it’s difficult to ascertain...but this election has made him a leader. Gujarat elections have washed out his record as failed leader. Whether Congress wins this election or not, Rahul Gandhi has emerged as a leader in Gujarat elections.

Q: Jagdeeshji, if I ask you in one line to give a summary to our cores of our Zee Media viwers, What will you say?

A: BJP can’t take Gujarat for guaranteed now this moment
