DUSU 2018: Voting begins in North and South campuses

Delhi University is all geared up to host the students’ union elections on Wednesday. Over 1.4 lakh students will cast their franchise to choose their representatives for four key posts – president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary.

Campaigning for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections ended on Monday night after a hectic two weeks of high-pitched canvassing.

Polling at North and South campuses will is scheduled to start at 8.30 in the morning and continue till 7.30 pm.

Students from 53 colleges will cast their ballot in two sessions – 8.30 am to 1 pm for morning students, and 3 pm to 7.30 pm for evening students. As many as 760 electronic voting machines will be used. Last year’s voter turnout was 42.8%.

Counting of votes and announcement of the result will be on September 13. Counting will begin at 8:30 am in the Community Hall, Kingsway Camp.

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner for DUSU polls, V K Kaul, released the final list of candidates contesting the four panel seats. Twenty-three candidates are in the fray this time, of which five are standing for the post of President.

Candidates contesting for the post of secretary

· Sudhir Dedha (ABVP)

· Aakah Choudhary (NSUI)

Polling is underway for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections at 52 centres in colleges here, an official said Wednesday. As many as 1.35 lakh students will decide the fate of 23 candidates in in the DUSU polls. Senior faculty members have been posted as observers at the centres and around 700 electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been installed, the official said. Polling began at 8.30 am at morning colleges and will end at 1 pm. In evening colleges, it will be held between 3 pm and 7.30 pm.

The voting has started at the Delhi University and affiliated colleges for the student body polls. The polling will continue until 1.00 pm today, and the counting will take place on 13 September.

In view of peaceful elections, barricades have been placed at the entrance so that students and election officials are the only ones that can enter. The move comes after a group of election campaigners of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) ran amok on the premises of the Zakir Hussain College, wielding sticks and raising slogans, and breaking flower-pots and furniture, allegedly because they were denied entry by the college guard.
