Pranab Mukherjee expecting 5.6 lakh votes
Counting of votes for the 14th Presidential election began here today in which UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee has a clear edge over BJP-backed Purno Sangma.
Counting of ballots began amidst tight security in Parliament House here in the presence of authorised representatives of both Mukherjee and Sangma. The ballot boxes of votes cast in Parliament House were taken up first for counting after which those from the states will be opened.

Meanwhile, the BJP seems to have accepted defeat with Sudheedra Kulkarni admitting that it was a a foregone conclusion that Pranab Mukherjee would win the polls.
Sangma camp may move SC if Pranab wins
The Sangma camp even indicated that they are all set to move the Supreme Court to file an election petition against Pranab Mukherjee, if he is elected the winner.

Counting still on for Presidential polls. The UPA expects Pranab to get a 72% lead over PA Sangma.

Opposition's PA Sangma gets support of 296 MPs. 15 votes are invalid.
Nine votes for Pranab and six for Sangma were declared invalid. The invalidity of the votes are being contested by representatives of Pranab Mukherjee and PA Sangma.
Pranab Mukherjee gets 54 of the 59 votes polls in Arunachal Pradesh
The vote value corresponded to 432 for Mukherjee, while it was 16 for Sangma.
Three votes are invalid.
In the 126-member Assam Assembly, Mukherjee gets 110 votes while Sangma gets 13.
Two votes are invalid while one did not vote.
"Pranab's victory is a foregone conclusion... We are already celebrating," Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajv Shukla said as counting of votes polled in the presidential polls continued at Parliament House.
In BJP-ruled states of Chhattisgarh and Goa, PA Sangma got majority of votes.
In the 90-mmember Assembly Chhattisgarh, 39 votes went to Mukherjee while Sangma got 50. One vote was invalid.
Results from various states show massive victory in the waiting for Pranab Mukherjee. In Assam, Pranab snagged 110 of the 125 votes while Sangma got 13. In Arunachal Pradesh Pranab got 54 votes while Sangma got 2 . In Bihar too the numbers were in Mukherjee's favour with 146 votes for him and 90 for Sangma. Same in Andhra Pradesh with Pranab at 182 and Sangma at 3.
In Kerala it was a clean sweep for Pranab Mukherjee. He won all the 124 votes polled while one was invalid. Sangma drew a blank. CPI and RSP members abstained from voting which has a 140 member Assembly.
Vote value for Mukherjee in Kerala stood at 18848.
In 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Mukherjee got 73 votes while Sangma got 156. Four votes were invalid.
In terms of the vote share, Mukherjee got 9563 and Sangma 20,436.
The counting of votes for the Presidential election are still underway but Pranab Mukherjee has crossed the halfway mark to become the 13th President of India.
Mukherjee got a vote value of 5,58,194, crossing the required half-way mark of 5,25,140 after counting of votes in half the states was over.
Pranab Mukherjee is all set to be sworn in as the new President on India on July 25, Wednesday.

In 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Mukherjee got 74 votes while Sangma got 149. Four votes were invalid.
In terms of the vote share, Mukherjee got 9694 and Sangma 19,519.
After Pranab Mukherjee clearly emerged victorious in the Presidential election on July 22, rival candidate PA Sangma congratulated him and wished him success on his election as the new President of India.

Manipur gave 58 votes to Mukherjee with a value of 1044. Sangma got only one vote with a value of 18. One vote was invalid.
Sangma's home state of Meghalaya won him 23 votes with a value of 391, while Mukherjee polled 34 votes with a value of 578. Two votes were declared invalid.
In Mizoram, Mukherjee got 32 votes with a value of 256 while Sangma polled 7 votes with a vallue of 56. One vote was declared invalid.
Mukherjee got overwhelming support in Nagaland of 58 legislators with a vote value of 522, while Sangma drew a blank. Two votes were invalid.

Odisha, where Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced support to Sangma, voted in favour of the Sangma giving him 115 votes with a value of 17,135. Mukherjee got 26 votes with a value of 3874.
Punjab gave 70 votes to Sangma with a value of 8120 while Mukherjee got 44 votes with a value of 5104. Two votes were invalid.
Rajasthan gave 113 votes to Mukherjee with a value of 14,577, while Sangma got 85 votes with a value of 10965.
In Sikkim, Mukherjee got 28 votes with a value of 196 while Sangma polled one vote with a value of seven. Two votes were invalid.
Pranab Mukherjee thanked people across the country for his victory and said that with emotions running high it felt like another general election.
"I have received much more form the people than I have given them," said India's newly elected President Pranab Mukherjee.
