Congress raises Leader of Opposition issue in Lok Sabha

The Lok Sabha will address and vote on the demands for grants of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, as well as the Road Transport and Highways, today. The government, on Monday, rejected opposition's resolution on Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, prompting the opposition to walkout in Rajya Sabha.

The government cried foul against the opposition Congress party, for casting aspersions against the Speaker over the contentious issue of Leader of Opposition (LoP) post in the Lok Sabha. Speaking to the mediapersons, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said: "Congress leaders' reactions are outrageous; especially, against the speaker, which is unacceptable. The speaker is for the entire house. To cast apprehension against the speaker shows desperation of the Congress. If people did not give them even 55 seats, what can we do?." Read more

Furore in Parliament over judicial appointments
Amid furore created by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) members in Parliament for the second day running, Government on Tuesday admitted that a Supreme Court collegium during the UPA rule had recommended extension of a judge in Tamil Nadu who was under corruption cloud. "Name the DMK Minister at the Centre," shouted agitated AIADMK members who stormed the Well of the Lok Sabha as they were not satisfied with the response given by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, forcing two adjournments of the House. Read more
