The counting of votes in four states began on Sunday amidst tight security and elaborate arrangements made by the Election Commission.
Delhi, which is presently under the Congress' rule, will decide the fate of 810 candidates who are vying for 70 assembly seats.
In Madhya Pradesh, the fate of 2,583 candidates would be decided for 230 seats. Shivraj Singh Chauhan is fighting against a younger Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya Scindia for chief minister's post in the state.
A close race is expected between the BJP and the Congress in Chhattisgarh. The fate of 843 candidates, including 75 women, will be decided for 90 assembly seats in the two-phase polls that look place on November 11 and November 19.

“I have been with the Aam Aadmi Party since its launch,” auto driver Bhageshwar Yadav tells dna’s Mayank Aggarwal. “I was carrying AAP ads on my auto and I want the party to form the government in Delhi,” said Yadav, who voted for AAP candidate Saurabh Bharadwaj in the upmarket Greater Kailash constituency.
Congress has been completely routed in west Delhi and southwest Delhi, reports Rohinee Singh. Results declared for 16 constituencies show that the BJP has won in 9, the Aam Aadmi party in 6 and the ILD in 1. Congress sitting MLAs Ramakant Goswami and Rajkumar Chauhan have both lost their seats.
"We accept our defeat and we will analyse what went wrong," says Sheila Dikshit.

In fact, more than a 1,000 voters exercised this option in constituencies of Bawana, Gokulpur, Nangloi Jat and Uttam Nagar. The fortunes of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress continued to pendulum in Chhattisgarh as counting of votes went apace Sunday. In the latest trends tally, the BJP was leading on 46 seats while the Congress was ahead on 41 in the 90-member assembly. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led in two constituencies while one saw an independent in the lead (at 2.30 p.m.). Earlier, at one time, the Congress was leading on 49 seats.In initial results declared officially, the BJP and Congress had won one seat each.
Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung Sunday dissolved the legislative assembly and forwarded the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to President Pranab Mukherjee. "The lieutenant governor has dissolved the fourth Delhi legislative assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from Dec 8, 2013," said an official statement. "On receipt of the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, he (Jung) has forwarded it to the president of India," it added.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh defeats Congress' Alka Mudaliyar in Rajnandgaon constituency by 35,866 votes. Alka is wife of Congress leader Uday Mudliar, who was killed in naxal attack in Darbha valley under Bastar region May this year. "It is a historic day and I thank people of the state for BJP's hattrick," Singh stated.

he fate of the Congress government in Mizoram will be known when votes polled for the assembly elections held November 25 are counted today.
Over 81% of the total of 690,860 voters exercised their franchise across the state to elect a new 40-member assembly and government.
"The counting of ballots would be done across eight districts from 8 a.m. Monday. Postal ballots would be counted first, followed by the votes recorded in EVMs (electronic voting machines)," an official of the state election department told reporters.
Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, also the state Congress chief, is contesting from two constituencies - Serchhip, his home turf, and neighbouring Hrangturzo - while opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) chief Zoramthanga is trying his electoral fortunes from Tuipui East, bordering Myanmar.
The main poll battle in the mountainous state is between the ruling Congress and opposition coalition Mizoram Democratic Alliance, comprising the MNF, Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) and Maraland Democratic Front (MDF), all regional and local parties.
BJP has little base in the state, Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) and the Nationalist Congress Party also contested, fielding candidates on many seats.
Of the 40 assembly seats, 39 are reserved for tribals and one is for general category.
Counting of votes cast in elections to the Mizoram assembly began at 8 am, officials said.
During the last assembly elections held December 2008, the Congress won 32 seats, the MNF three and the MDF one. The MPC and ZNP got two seats each.
The MNF, which ruled the state for 10 years till 2008, is the principal opposition party.

Counting of votes cast in the November 25 elections in Mizoram has begun amidst tight security.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made at counting centres in eight districts, said state joint chief electoral officer H Lalengmawia.
The Director General of Election Commission of India, Ashish Srivastava, and several observers are in capital Aizawl to supervise the process.
The Congress was leading in seven seats and the MNF in one in Mizoram according to latest trends available.
Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, seeking a fifth term, was leading in both Serchhip, his home turf, and Hrangturzo.

Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has won from Serchhip by 724 votes and Hrangturzo by 1638 votes, the two seats he contested in the Assembly elections. Read more
Thanhawla polled 5719 votes and Lalramzauva, who is an advocate, 4985.
Zoram Nationalist Party nominee P B Lalsawliana polled 2899 and Independent Lalawpuia Renthlei just 65 votes.
Altogether 65 votes were registered in the None of the Above category.
