Rohit Gandhi

Dear Readers,

It is an honour to present to you the stories of our city, our nation and our world. It is a dream to be able to tell these stories honestly without taking sides. The news media represents the people. Questions have often been raised, time and again, about its ethical neutrality. It has been accused of representing the interests of politicians and corporates.

When I joined the company, we had long consultations with the senior management. We were all very clear that we should properly state whether we have a conflict of interest either as journalists or as a larger organisation. So we have decided to put out a logo that tells the readers that there may be a perception of conflict of interest.

For the journalists I work with, journalism is a temple. We do not come under any pressure to do the journalism we do. We tell you the story from the ground. It is not always simple. It is not always black and white. We then dig deeper and explain the greys that we see. It is not always an easy call but we do the best we can.

We were in Nice, France, as soon as the attack happened, and we were also in Mumbai as the rains blurred its suburban cityscape. We are your eyes and ears to the world around you. We promise to shrink the world as we continue to expand our coverage in the coming year as we bring your world closer to you.
