A day after opposition in the Rajya Sabha accused the BJP-led government of polarising the country, the Parliament will continue its debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President's address today. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah had initiated the discussion on the Motion with his maiden Rajya Sabha speech on Monday.
Shah took on senior Congress leader P Chidambaram for his 'pakoda' jibe and said it was better to sell pakodas than being unemployed.
Later, responding to Shah, who praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for injecting fresh hope of a “New India” among dispirited public, Congress lashed out at the government for playing with the secular fabric asking it to return the “Old India” based on Gandhian values.
Participating in the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President's address, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad attacked the government for creating fear, not only among people but also among the bureaucrats and opposition leaders. He accused the BJP government of changing the names of UPA schemes and "repackaging" them as new.
It is not a "game changer" but a "name changer government" which has failed to deliver on all fronts be it providing relief to farmers and poor, generate jobs or addressing the Kashmir issue, Azad said.
The debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President's address will continue today and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address the House on Wednesday.
