The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) is gearing up to take disciplinary action against nine rebel MLAs in the party in Andhra Pradesh.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) is gearing up to take disciplinary action against nine rebel MLAs in the party in Andhra Pradesh. The identity of rebels came out into open during a recent voting on no-confidence motion introduced by TRS. These MLAs had voted in favour of the motion despite the Congress’ a whip to its members.

The TRS had introduced a no-trust motion early this week. Though knowing that the opposition was not united on the issue of ousting the Congress government, the TRS argued that the motion was introduced to create an opportunity for them to discuss the way the Congress had betrayed the people of Telangana.

It was during the voting, nine of the Congress MLAs crossed the floor and supported the TRS’ motion.

The Congress, though saved by the division within the opposition, is wary of the possibility of yet another such motion this time coming from the TDP.

“Another no-confidence motion can be introduced in the house with a gap of about six months. Since it was the TRS this time the numbers were not against the Congress. But, if the TDP with over 80 MLAs introduces the motion and if it can garner the support of other parties, then the situation would be different. If the rebels also go in support of the motion, then the Congress would be in trouble. The disciplinary action on the rebels is being taken keeping in view the possibility of yet another motion coming to the assembly,” a senior Congress member explained.
