Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi met the family members of slain Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zia-ul-Haque on Saturday and assured them that they will get justice.
Gandhi, who met Parveen Azad, the wife of murdered Uttar Pradesh police officer, and the other members of the family told them that the entire Congress is with them in this hour of great tragedy and they will get full justice.
The Congress Vice President also paid tributes to the slain police officer at the burial ground.
"The entire Congress is with them in this hour of great tragedy and loss and they will get full justice," he said.
Zia-ul-Haque was among the two persons killed in Ballipur village of Pratapgarh district last week during clashes that followed the murder of village head Nanhe Yadav, who was allegedly gunned down over a property dispute.
Haque was killed in the crossfire between the police and villagers.
The DSP's wife had filed a police complaint, accusing former Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and his men of killing her husband.
She accused the minister of harassing the police officer as he was investigating a recent communal clash in Pratapgarh.
Raja Bhaiya was named as an accused in the murder of the cop on Thursday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), based on a complaint filed by Parveen Azad.
Raja Bhaiya has also been charged with criminal conspiracy after Parveen alleged that the former minister, an Independent legislator from Kunda, had conspired to kill her husband.
Officials said that with the charges converted to murder under Section 302 of the IPC, the arrest of Raja Bhaiya is now imminent, and added that the CBI team investigating the matter could interrogate him and then arrest him.
The CBI took charge of the case late on Wednesday, and began its probe today into the killing of Haq, Bilaspur village headman Nanhe Yadav and his brother Suresh Yadav.
Four others - Rohit Singh, Guddu Singh, Om Srivastava and Gulshan Yadav - have also been accused in the Haq murder case. Following his name figuring in the FIR filed by Parveen, Raja Bhaiya had quit the one-year-old Akhilesh Yadav ministry.
