CPI (M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury launched the Sangharsh Sandesh Yatra from Mumbai to Delhi by addressing several rallies across the city including Hutatma Chowk, Bharat Mata, Dharavi, Andheri, Marol and Bhandup.
The Yatra is aimed at making people aware of the problems faced by the country. Addressing a gathering at Andheri, Yechury said "What we need today is policies which will ensure that nation's resources are utilized for the benefit of the people's interest and not looted for corruption or for the benefit of the rich which leads to the rich become richer and the poor is become poorer.
"Therefore, I have come to appeal to the people to come out and enter a bigger struggle required to change these policies."
"You all know that the prices have risen high, there is unemployment and even the little jobs that were available earlier is not available now," Yechury pointed out.
We need to create a nation where people will not tremble due to hunger. We need to create a system where nobody faces hunger and for that the resources are the grains are in our godowns. There is 6.5 crore tonnes of grain are rotting in the godowns of the Central Government. We have been fighting to getting the grains distributed among the states so that poor people get foodgrains through PDS, but the Central Government does not agree to our demands.
There is no shortage of money in our country, if we give 35 kilograms of grains at Rs 2, it would cost the country Rs 28,000 crore above the subsidies on grains presently. This is the figure given by National Advisory Council headed by Sonia Gandhi. But Chidabaram says we do not have 28000 crore. But the 2G scam was of 1,76,000 crore.
CPI (M) leader Mohammed Salim said "that the country is run on the lines of Washington. Issues of labourers, farmers and the poor have been pushed to the background."
Nilotpal Basu said "the resources of the country have been handed over to few handful of people. Petrol and diesel and diesel are the most expensive in this country, when compared to any country in the world."
The Sangharsh Sandesh Yatra is being organised from different parts of the country including Kanyakumari, Kolkatta and Amritsar.
