Two police constables have been suspended for beating a girl, her father and a few others with sticks at a wedding party in Tarn Taran town, near Amritsar.
Harbinder Kaur, daughter of an ex-serviceman, from Usman village, was trying to save her father from the police thrashing when she was beaten.
Tarn Taran special superintendent of police KS Dhillon said sub-inspector Sukhbir Singh would conduct an inquiry into the incident. According to him, the police used sticks following a complaint that some people under the influence of alcohol were creating nuisance at the spot.
He admitted that the police had apparently no reason to thrash the girl who was accompanying her father. “But the matter is still under investigation,” he added. The SSP said no arrest was made in the case since the matter was allegedly resolved between the police and others amicably. “Still a detailed investigation would be done,” he said.
