Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday confirmed that controversial Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya has submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav after he was booked for a conspiracy to kill Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia-ul-Haq.
He further said that BSP supremo Mayawati’s criticism of the UP government is uncalled for, as the state government has initiated strong actions against criminals in the state.
Raja Bhaiya presently holds the Food and Civil Supplies portfolio in the Akhilesh Yadav government
Zia-ul-Haq was among the two persons killed in Ballipur village of Pratapgarh district on Saturday during clashes that followed the murder of village head Nanhe Yadav, who was allegedly gunned down over a property dispute.
Haq was killed in the crossfire between the police and villagers.
The DSP’s wife had filed a police complaint, accusing Raja Bhaiya and his men of killing her husband.
She accused the minister of harassing the police officer as he was investigating a recent communal clash in Pratapgarh.
Raja Bhaiya was divested of the prison department in a recent reshuffle.
