Railway minister PK Bansal announced that Rs1 lakh ex-gratia would be given to the next of kin of those killed in the Allahabad stampede.
Bansal is rushing to Allahabad with Railway Board Chairman for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
The death toll in the stampede at Allahabad railway station reached 36 on Monday, with 14 more people succumbing to their injuries.
Condoling the loss of lives in the stampede at Allahabad, BJP President Rajnath Singh today said the incident could have been avoided if adequate precautions had been taken at the railway station teeming with thousands of Kumbh pilgrims.
Demanding an investigation into the incident, he said those responsible for it should be punished.
