The Madras High Court has allowed civil revision petitions seeking to screen a bi-lingual film, a biography of slain forest brigand Veerappan, provided certain scenes found objectionable by his wife are deleted.
Justice RS Ramanathan allowed the civil revision petitions by director AMR Ramesh and one Akshaya Creations, subject to deletion of certain scenes from the film.
Senior counsel for the petitioners submitted his clients would delete all scenes where Veerappan's wife Muthulakshmi's character was portrayed and scenes she found objectionable.
Scenes to be deleted are those which show the marriage of the brigand with Muthulakshmi, her escape from the Special Task Force and her arrest by police.
Veerappan was shot dead by Tamil Nadu Special Task Force in an encounter in October 2004. His biography in the form of a feature film was made in Tamil as Vana Udham and in Kannada as Attakasa.
Muthulakshmi had moved a sessions court here,contending the film was produced without her consent and it depicted her husband in bad taste and that the same would affect cases pending against her in various courts.
She won the case, which restrained filmmakers from in any manner exhibiting, releasing and exposing the movie and also from publishing the interview in TV channels.
The filmmakers had moved the high court against the session court's order and it directed them to screen the film to Muthulakshmi, so that she can identify the scenes which she found objectionable.
