A prank call by a son to his father claiming that he had been picked by Army and being tortured has landed the duo in police net. It all began this week when a panicky Mohammmed Yassen Mir, a resident of Kunzar in North Kashmir, called his father and conveyed that he had been picked up by a local army unit and was being tortured, official sources said on Wednesday.
The locals blocked the traffic briefly on Srinagar-Gulmarg road on Monday to protest alleged high-handedness of the Army and the parents of Mir also lodged a complaint with the local police station against unknown army personnel. Army conducted an in-house probe and found that none of its units was engaged in illegal detention of the youth, prompting authorities to take up the matter with local police.
Both the army and the police swung into action and began a probe from the place where the last call had been made, sources said, adding, the investigations led them to a person Mohammed Yusuf Tantray, a friend of the Mir family.
During questioning about the prank call, Mir told police that he wanted to teach his father a lesson following a family dispute. Both father and son have been arrested by police on charges of making false complaint and attempting to malign the reputation of the army.
