Amidst all the jam-packed events and celebrations lined up for the first month of 2013, residents of Bopal, Sanand and Sarkhej too have something to gush about.
According to official sources, of the 18 police stations that fall under Ahmedabad district police jurisdiction, the administration is planning to bring some under Ahmedabad city police in order to control the law and order situation in the newly-formed districts. In addition, the city police is likely to add a seventh zone for better division of responsibilities in all areas.
District police stations in areas including Sarkhej, Bopal and Sanand will soon be shifted to the purview of Ahmedabad city police. Kanbha and Aslali police stations of Ahmedabad district will also be moved to city police jurisdiction, according to sources.
Official sources have also confirmed that on Republic Day, the state government is likely to announce the shifting of Barwada and Ranpur police stations to Botad district police. With the city police jurisdictions divided into six zones, police administration is likely to add zone VII in lieu of the additional police stations being brought under its purview.
However, the question is – will this change be of any use to the Aam Amdavadi?
Many Amdavadis think that the idea of shifting these district police stations to the city will definitely prove beneficial for residents of the respective areas. Talking more about this, Bopal resident Khyati Purohit said that the addition would help police in better serving and reaching out to public in these new areas.
“We can expect the city police services to reach the spot much quicker, whenever there is any issue or incident after the shift,” added Purohit.
Manu Parmar, a resident of Sanand, also supports the change, calling it a good step. He says that this idea would help residents in approaching the city police commissioner directly if at all the local cops refuse to register their complaints.
“If it so happens that the local police stations do not register our complaints, we will be able to go to the commissioner and talk to him directly. And yes, there will also be more protection after the area’s inclusion in city police jurisdiction,” Parmar said.
