The Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in Ahmedabad has received recognition for working efficiently. In an internal assessment by the ministry of external affairs about customer care services, Ahmedabad was chosen as number one for more than 50% daily assessments.
The PSK in the city got competition from two other centres – in Jaipur and Nasik – which topped the list in performance in the remaining 50% of daily assessments by the ministry, according to regional passport officer ZA Khan. While the national benchmark for attending an applicant by customer executives is 9.3 minutes, in Ahmedabad, the formalities are completed in six minutes.
Khan said that the news brought cheer for the department even as the launch of online passport application system would complete one year on January 9. The Ahmedabad centre competed with 77 other PSKs across the country.
“As we complete one year, we aim to not limit the verification process to only district headquarters of the police, but take it to city police stations,” the officer told DNA, adding that 3.23 lakh passports were issued in Gujarat (excluding five districts) during 2012.
