It was heartening to see the enthusiasm on the face of each participant, particularly those who were competing on wheel chairs. There were 15 such participants on Sunday morning who were taking part in the marathon for the differently abled. The distance to be covered was 5 km. And, they enjoyed every bit of it, right up to the dance in the end.
Amid countdown for their race, audience could be heard hooting and cheering the participants even as motivational songs played in the background.
Harish Verma, a gym instructor in his thirties, came first. He was participating for the first time. “Last year too, I had registered, but due to family issues, I could not participate,” said Verma. Besides the Sabarmati marathon, Verma has won Mr Gujarat Body building (handicapped category) thrice and national arm wrestling competition thrice. The second to finish the race was Mehul Chavda, who had participated in city’s marathon last year as well.
