This is an increase of around six lakh visitors over last year. New attractions and adventure sports along with permanent activities attracted a larger crowd in the fifth edition of the carnival.

More than 31 lakh visitors from Ahmedabad and other places visited Kankaria Lakefront during the seven-day-long Kankaria carnival from December 25-31. This is an increase of around six lakh visitors over last year. New attractions and adventure sports along with permanent activities attracted a larger crowd in the fifth edition of the carnival.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had to close entry gates on Sunday and Monday because of huge rush of visitors. Moreover, the civic body stopped the toy train ride after 5pm for the same reason.

Kids City, tethered helium balloon and toy train continued to attract visitors. During the seven days 3,468 people visited Kids City, while 30,703 people enjoyed the toy train ride and 5,683 people enjoyed the balloon trip.

The civic body had set up three stages for cultural programmes which hosted 466 cultural activities by 9,696 participants. More than 500 differently-abled people also performed at the carnival.

This year, the civic body introduced 13 new activities such as tree walking, charity bag, scuba diving, Segway polo, archery and aqua carting, among others. A rock band played for the first time and around 500 children took part in workshops for activity based learning.

AMC also received considerable response to seven competitions, including elocution, drawing, mehendi and rangoli contests, in which around 3,000 people participated.
