A jeweller became a victim of loot and firing near Gurukul on Wednesday night. According to case details Pankaj Vaghadia, 39, resident of Krishnanagar in Memnagar, and his elder brother Vijay Vaghadia own a shop, Balkrishna Jewelers at Bhuyangdev crossroads in Ghatolodia. Like other days, on Wednesday at 9.30 pm they shut the shop and left. Pankaj was carrying a bag of jewellery. The brothers left on Pankaj’s scooter. After dropping Vijay at his house in Ghatolodia, Pankaj proceeded towards his home. He took the lane adjoining Dinner Bell restaurant near Nilam Park that opens at Gurukul.
While he was driving there, two men on a black Pulsar bike approached from behind. When they were close enough, the one riding pillion pulled out a gun and fired at Pankaj. The bullet hit Pankaj on his hand. The assailant fired a second time, injuring his victim on the chest. Pankaj fell on the ground after which the duo picked up the bag and sped away.
At that time, one Parth Patel and his wife were walking in that lane. They witnessed the entire action. Seeing the assailants flee, Patel ran after the duo. A little further, the bike stopped due to some problem. Patel picked up a brick and aimed it at the bikers. But Pankaj’s attacker flashed his gun forcing Patel to back off. The duo managed to start the bike and vanished from the spot.
Residents and passersby who had gathered at the spot called up 108 emergency services, but by the time the ambulance arrived, Pankaj had breathed his last. On getting the news of the firing, top cops including in-charge JCP Sanjay Shrivastav and DCP Niraj Badgujar reached the spot and started investigation.
Vijay, Pankaj’s brother, went into a state of shock on hearing about the incident. Police have been unable to find out the value of the jewellery in the bag that was snatched from Pankaj. More details are expected to emerge once they talk to Vijay.
