Stray dogs kill newborn thrown in a garbage dump near Azad nagar; residents say it is the fifth case of infant dumped here.

“We may have civilized bodies and yet barbarous souls. We are blind to the real sights of this world; deaf to its voice; and dead to its death...” In yet another example of how insensitive human beings have become nowadays that will leave you shell-shocked, a newborn was found dead after being severely mauled by a pack of stray dogs on Tuesday morning near Azad nagar in CTM. The baby was thrown at the garbage dump soon after birth. Incidentally, this is the fifth baby to be kept at the garbage dump in the area over a period of time.

Primary investigation revealed that Harshad Patel, a social worker, who called the ambulance to the spot, found the infant. “The baby was declared dead by the doctors as the child’s head and nose was severely bitten off by the dogs,” said Patel. Police also rushed to the spot after the residents thronged the area to see the baby’s bloodied and mutilated body.

Residents of the area say they heard the baby crying, after it was attacked by dogs, in the dumping area of the society in the morning. When DNA called up DCP Siddharth Khatri for details, he said that the investigations are on and they are trying to find out more about the baby’s family.

“We are trying to find out the family. We need to investigate about the person who has done this heinous crime. We are also looking into other possibilities as it looks like a case where the baby could have been bitten by some other animal too,” said Khatri.

Meanwhile, sanitary inspector of Indrapuri ward, Hariram Goriya, has registered a complaint against parents under Exposure and abandonment of the child.  “Sanitary inspector Goriya has filed a complaint against the parents of the child. We will investigate this case further by going to the nearby society and nursing homes to find out more about the baby’s parents”, said CL Solanki, PI.
