The road stretch from Manav Mandir to Doordarshan and Gurukul is turning into an active playground for thieves, bag lifters and robbers in city. Incidents of loot and theft are being reported at regular intervals on this stretch.
In the latest incident, two bikers snatched a bag containing Rs1.4 lakh on Tuesday afternoon and vanished. They could not have feared less about being caught by cops as they conducted the loot in full view of public near Drive-In cinema.
In his complaint to Vastrapur police, one Ravi Sachaliya, 24, a resident of Kesarkunj apartment in Naranpura, alleged that two persons came on one bike and snatched away his bag at 1:30pm when he was walking towards his office in J B Tower opposite Doordarshan campus.
Sachaliya works as a peon with Valji P & Sons at J B Tower. On Tuesday, one Manoj Zala, an employee with the same firm, gave him a cheque and asked him to withdraw cash from HDFC bank on Drive-In road. He collected the Rs1.4 lakh cash and put it in his bag. When he was returning to office on foot, two bikers came from behind and snatched away his bag. Before Sachaliya could react, they zoomed away towards Doordarshan and vanished.
After receiving his complaint, N G Gosai, sub-inspector of Vastrapur police, checked the CCTV footage of the bank and a nearby shop. “But, we have not found any significant clue from the footage. Even Sachaliya does not remember whether the bike had any registration number,” said Gosai.
