Sign boards in AHmedabad to assist you during Muharram

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, traffic police have decided to install sign boards suggesting alternative routes during Tazia procession as part of Muharram on Sunday afternoon. Eleven major roads inside the walled city will remain closed for easy movement of processions. According to D H Parmar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP)-traffic, 22 sign boards of 5’x3’ size will be put up at both ends of these roads to guide commuters towards the best alternate routes.

The grand celebration
The Tazia procession will have 93 tableaux, 32 akhadas, 78 drummers, 16 camel carts and 12 trucks. Processions will begin at around 3pm and merge before coming to a close at midnight on Sunday. Many smaller processions pass from internal roads of walled city and finally reach Khanpur for immersion at night.

Police bandobast
Around 300 policemen will be deployed to maintain law and order during the procession. A deputy commissioner of police, two assistant commissioners of police, six police inspectors, 27 police sub-inspectors and 250 other
policemen will be stationed at strategic points.
