There is outrage within the Surat district Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over ticket distribution at the Olpad and Limbayat constituencies. Local BJP leaders have alleged that the candidate for Limbayat, Sangita Patil was a receptionist working for BJP MP and strongman, CR Patil’s company. Party workers demanded that the ticket be given to a local candidate instead of her. There was also protest against BJP’s candidate for Olpad, Mukesh Patel.
Sangita Patil’s selection has attracted the ire of BJP workers and leaders from Dumbhal, Limbayat and Parvat-Godadara areas. The angered leaders have written a letter to city BJP president, urging them to change the candidate for the Limbayat seat.
“Sangita Patil works as a receptionist at CR Patil’s office and is only associated with Modi Samarthak Mahila Mandal. She is neither an active member of BJP, nor a resident of Limbayat,” BJP councilor from Dumbhal, PVS Sarma said.
However, CR Patil has denied that Sangita works at his office.
Sangita Patil refuted the allegation, terming it an attempt to defame her. “Our mandal was in need of space to function and CR Patil helped us by providing space on the first floor of his office, and for free.
There is no question of getting salary from the company, as I have never worked for him,” she explained. A similar situation has arisen at Olpad, where party workers are not satisfied with the BJP’s decision to field Mukesh Patel. The workers handed a memorandum to CR Patil demanding that Mukesh Patel be replaced the president of Olpad taluka panchayat, Kanti Patel as the candidate.
