The noose around thieves posing as domestic help is getting tighter. In a major catch, Anandnagar police arrested three notorious thieves, involved in more than five incidents of thefts by posing as domestic help. After wining confidence of the house owner, they used to steal valuables and vanish.
The arrested included Manilal Patel, Dinesh Patel, natives of Kotdikheda village of Dungarpur in Rajasthan, and Gyaniprasad Ahirwal, a native of Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh.
On Monday, Anandnagar police were stationed near Bileshwar Mahadev temple at Jodhpur crossroads. They spotted the trio travelling on a Pulsar bike and stopped them. During the trio's check, they found a metal tool known as 'Khatariyu' used to break locks and a toy pistol from their possession. The trio was detained and taken to Anandnagar police station.
After thorough investigation, cops learned that they were involved in five thefts in posh localities of Vastrapur, Satellite, Ghatlodia and Anandnagar.
According to police, the trio has been living in Ahmedabad for last one year and keeps changing their address. At present, they had rented a room in Rajvinagar in Satellite.
According to Niraj Badgujar, DCP zone-1, Dinesh and Manilal used to take up work as domestic help and conduct theft in the same house within a few days. "They would first contact the security guard of a posh society and win his confidence. The guard would then recommend them as domestic help in that society. They would first win the confidence of the house owner and then strike at the right moment" said Badgujar while interacting with mediapersons.
Around six months back, Dinesh got a job with the help of a security guard of Sangathan society near Gurukul in Vastrapur. He vanished after 3 days after stealing Rs1.17 lakh and a camera from the house. He shared the amount with Manilal and fled to Mumbai. "They used to spend the whole amount on leisure activities and bars. When they ran out of cash, they would come back and hunt for another house," said Badgujar.
Manilal too had stolen Rs3 lakh from a bungalow in Satellite, where he worked for 15 days. Later, he came back and targeted another house in Anandnagar after changing his name and vanished with Rs70,000.
Using the same modus operandi, Dinesh and Manilal targeted a posh bungalow in Surdhara circle and a house in Uganda park in Ghatlodia recently.
