36 young innovators awarded at IIM Ahmedabad

Mood was vibrant at the Ravi J Matthai Auditorium at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) as young innovators from across the country displayed their innovations on Saturday at the IGNITE competition organised by NIF.

Around 36 students were awarded for their ideas apart from the special mention of another ten students at a function held to acknowledge innovations. The prizes were given by the former president and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

The students’ innovations came from around 19 districts of 14 states in the country. Overall 14,889 submissions of students were received during the IGNITE 12 competition, which ran from September 11, 2011 to August 31, 2012.

The IGNITE competition is organised by NIF in association with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Society for Research and Initiatives in Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI), various State Education Boards and other partners. The awards are announced every year on October 15th, Dr Kalam’s birthday, which is celebrated as the Children's Creativity and Innovation Day by NIF.

Some innovations included system to prevent people from driving without licence, door bell with user code and an idea to prevent people from using mobile while driving.
